Women and Family Life During the Civil War
Thursday, November 7
6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
Location: Shorewood Village Center
In 1861, boys and men had gone to war, but those who hadn't had still endured burdens of their own at home. In this historical lecture, Danielle Michaels will discuss family life during the Civil War, as well as the numerous ways in which women contributed to war efforts. Additionally, impactful women from our very own Wisconsin will be given a spotlight, and all will shed light on the resilience of women during this turning point in history.
Danielle Michaels' interest in the Civil War stemmed from learning that her great-great grandfather, a German immigrant, joined the 35th WI Infantry in Milwaukee. She joined the Auxiliary to the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, an organization that perpetuates true history of the war and the memory of our ancestors, as well as provide monies to repair or restore monuments, grave stones, and markers. She has served as the National President, Counselor, and National Historian of this organization and speaks on the Civil War to inform of what our forefathers sacrificed and accomplished to keep our great Nation united.
This program is generously funded by the Friends of the Shorewood Public Library.
