At the June 9, 2021 Library Board meeting, the trustees updated the Library COVID-19 policy regarding face-coverings and masks in the library. As of Friday, June 11, 2021 masks are optional for vaccinated people. Unvaccinated people need to continuing wearing masks or face-coverings, including children between the ages of 2-11. This decision was based on local vaccination rates and transmission data, guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the many additional measures we have in place to support safe library visits at the Shorewood Public Library.
In May, the CDC issued guidance for fully vaccinated individuals and shared that cloth masks protect the wearer from spreading, and to some extent, getting the disease. The CDC also has recommendations for unvaccinated people.
The library employs several measures for safe visits including providing masks upon request, hand sanitizer stations, distanced seating at tables and computers, and nightly sanitation. We also continue to support remote use of the library with curbside pickup, an online Summer Reading Program and virtual, outdoor and “take and make” programs. In addition, we ask sick people to stay home.
We recognize that each library patron and family with have to choose what’s best for them - including continuing to wear a mask even if vaccinated, or deciding not to come to the library with unvaccinated individuals.
