The Library is closed on Monday, January 28 due to the weather.
We have never before closed due to weather! All other government offices, area schools, and many area libraries are also closed, so we have decided it is the best decision. We know many people rely on the library - we take the decision to close very seriously. It is indicated that travel is not advised and we are pleased to allow our staff to stay off the roads and to encourage you to do the same.
The Village of Shorewood Department of Public Works staff work hard to keep our parking lot and sidewalks clear so library patrons can get to the building safely. Due to a staff shortage, this has been tough for them in the past week! Our decision to close also weighs their workload as a factor. We want that hardworking team to concentrate on clearing the roads to allow emergency vehicles and other vital services to keep moving.
The library was also closed on Saturday and Sunday due to a burst pipe in our sprinkler system that resulted in water in the library and some power loss. There is no permanent damage (no books got wet!) and the pipe has been repaired.
We will reopen on Tuesday, January 29 at 9:30 a.m. Please note:
- All holds on the holdshelf that would have expired Saturday, Sunday or Monday will be held through Wednesday morning.
- We will check in all items returned through the end of the day on Tuesday as though they were returned on Friday, January 25.
Please call or email us on Tuesday if you have any questions or concerns! We are excited to return to normal business after a few strange days.
Stay safe and warm. We hope you have plenty to do, but if you need ideas check out the library's e-resources!
