Friends of Shorewood Public Library: May 2024 Updates
Springtime is when the Friends of the Shorewood Public Library begin anew to pledge financial support for the library’s collections and programs. Work gets underway this month to designate grants for 2025. The Friends look to the library staff for their recommendations regarding continuing needs, as well as new initiatives. In the past, the Friends have fully funded the Lucky Day book collection. We’ve supported many other additions to the adult and children's collections, DVDs of favorite TV shows, travel books, and fiction books published in their original languages. The Friends have underwritten the cost of library programming, including the summer and winter reading programs for adults, and the summer reading program for kids and teens, and Shakespeare in Shorewood.
Leading the Friends is a 12-member board. We’re joined at our monthly meetings by Hayley Johnson, Interim Library Director, and Kayla LaGrossa, the library’s newly-appointed Community and Adult Services Librarian. New officers were elected earlier this year, including Mary Armstrong as President, Jeannee Sacken as Vice President, Elizabeth Jonas as Treasurer, and Laurel Brooks as Secretary. The backbone of our organization is - as always - the over 130 members who contribute financially and volunteer their time to make the Shorewood Library our most-valued community resource. Consider becoming a Friend! You can enroll on the library website or by completing a membership form found in the library foyer.
