A New, Improved CountyCat Library Catalog

Posted May 15, 2024

A New, Improved CountyCat Library Catalog is Coming on June 20th, 2024!

CountyCat, the online catalog of all the public libraries in Milwaukee County, will soon have an updated interface with new features. You can test our new catalog now by following the link at the top of the CountyCat homepage, or by clicking here.

Shorewood Public Library will have its own branded CountyCat catalog. Residents will still have access to our full CountyCat catalog collection, but now local Shorewood copies of items will display first and more prominently.

The CountyCat app will remain the same. You will be able to continue to use it as you do now with no interruption.

Your current library account will be migrated over to the new catalog automatically - you’ll use your same library card number (or username) and PIN to log in. Please see Milwaukee County Federated Library system’s patron account guide for how your account will work and look in our new catalog.

Our new catalog will have the same functionality as the old catalog, plus new features:

  • Enhanced browsing of Milwaukee County public libraries’ collections online, including the Library of Things, where you can check out crochet hooks, record players, pickleball sets, and much more!
  • View multiple formats of a title grouped together in one place, including Libby content (e-books and audiobooks), with local Shorewood items appearing first and more prominently.
  • See search suggestions automatically to help you avoid spelling errors and save you time.
  • Manage Libby holds, check out Libby titles AND access your Libby reading history.
  • Link multiple family accounts together and pay fines online for all linked accounts.
  • Get title suggestions from the “While You Wait” feature that appears after you place a hold with suggestions of similar content you may be interested in while you wait for your hold item.

If you opted-in to track your reading history or created lists using our old catalog, you’ll need to import your lists and import your reading history to our new catalog. If you didn’t use these features in our old catalog and would like to start, you’ll be able create lists and track your reading history in our new catalog.
