Our roller coaster weather makes it next to impossible to plan outdoor fun for the kids. No worries. You can’t count on the weather, but you can count on the library to offer plenty of free fun for kids of all ages. Our 2018 winter/spring Events Calendar includes all of your favorite weekly and monthly programs, new twists on some story times, and a slew of special events that you and your kids are sure to love.
Story time sessions for babies and toddlers will be held in February and April. Due to popular demand, we’ve added another session of Rhyme & Read Lapsit little ones 6 – 23 months. Now you can choose between Monday mornings at 9:15 a.m. or 10:15 a.m.. Toddler Time for Two Year olds will move to Thursdays at 10 a.m.. Story time for 3s & 4s is held Thursday afternoons at 1:30 p.m. If evenings are better for your schedule, we will still offer Rhyme & Read P.M. (Plus More) for 6 months – 3 year olds on Monday nights at 6:30 p.m.. Registration for February story times starts January 22. Register online, in-person, or call 414-847-2670. Families with young children can also enjoy Special Saturdays featuring music, yoga, and sign-language.
School-aged kids can look forward to our popular weekly and monthly offerings like Art Cart, Lego Club, Tinker Lab, Tweens Days, and Family Fun Night at their usual days and times. They can also sign up for the Bucks Reading Challenge. Those who score 250 pages by February 2 will earn a ticket voucher for an upcoming game.
Our annual Community P.L.A.Y. DAY Will be held Saturday February 3 from 10 a.m. – noon. P.L.A.Y. stands for Play, Learning, and Your Young Child. Parents, grandparents, caregivers and their little ones (infants through kindergarten) are invited to discover the many ways children learn through play. We will have plenty of examples of homemade learning toys to play with, as well as some fun make and take projects so you can continue the learning adventure at home. North Shore Health Department, RedGen, and North Shore Fire Department will be on hand with information about how to keep your little ones healthy and safe. You can even learn CPR and basic first aid for children.
Then we enter Seuss season. Join us for our annual Seuss Celebration February 24 from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.. Seuss fans can enjoy Celebrity Reader and Seuss-tastical games, snacks, crafts and more.
The first Library Lego-Fest will be held March 9 and 10. Our friends at Milwaukee Public Library – East Branch are joining us so we can double the fun with two days of Lego mania at two libraries. Check out displays, demonstrations, activities, and prize drawings.
Kids can also ride the Shorewood Reads’ wave at two special events. Stone Soup Shakespeare presents the folktale Stone Soup, along with a bit of interactive Shakespeare and a chance to create a fairy-esque or fearsome mask on February 27. Kids grades 3 -7 will be able to exercise their own creative skills at a Comic Book Workshop on March 2.
We know big kids and grownups need fun too so we offer a host of programs for Teens and Adults. Check out the Events Calendar for a complete list of events.
