This weekend is officially time to bid summer a fond farewell and welcome autumn. Before we say our final goodbye to the busy summer of 2018, we want to take a look back. From June through August, more than 960 young readers participated in the Children’s and Teen Summer Reading Programs. Nearly 3,300 people attended our programs and people visited the library more than 48,000 times, checking out nearly 78,000 items.
Now it’s time to look forward to fall. Our fall program schedule is stocked full of traditional favorites. Our popular early literacy programs continue including Pop In & Play, Sensory Playtime (now on Thursdays), and Special Saturdays. Story Times for 3s & 4s is held Thursday afternoons at 1:30. Registration is on-going. Registration for Rhyme & Read Lapsit, Toddler Time for Two Year olds, and Thyme & Read P.M. starts October 8. Fall sessions run from late October until mid-November. Read more about our story times here.
We haven’t forgotten about our “big” kids. There are plenty of Drop-in programs for the school-age crowd. Weekly Art Cart is held Wednesdays from 2:30 – 4:00 p.m.. Lego Club returns the first and third Thursday of the month. Lego Club is open to all kids in first grade and up. Tweens in third grade and up can tap their inner maker at Tinker Lab. Tinker Labs are held the last Thursday of each month from 3:30 – 5:00 p.m.. Thanks to the generosity of the Friends of the Shorewood Library, we also have new games, puzzles, and table-top activities for our school-age visitors.
Looking for a little laid-back family time? Try our Family Fun Nights held one Tuesday of the month from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.. Stop in and enjoy some crafts projects, magnatile building, and other creative adventures.
For many, Halloween is the highlight of the season. We couldn’t agree more so we will be celebrating with a “boo-tiful” bash. Our annual Halloween Happening will be held Friday October 26 from 2:30 – 4 p.m.. Kids can enjoy ghoulish games, creepy crafts, and spook-tacular snacks.

The PLAY, LEARN, GROW Early Learning Center has also benefited from the Friends generosity. In recognition of the fourth anniversary of this special space, we were able to update the Babyland area, add some new puzzles and toys and replace some popular well-used items. A huge thank you to the Friends of the Library!!!
