Autumn is often seen as a time to return to established traditions and comfortable routines. Fall 2020 may have a very different feel than past years. Fortunately, there are some things that you can still count on. The Shorewood Public Library is still here to support you and your family.
We are open six days a week for in-person and curbside service. You can also access online resources 24/7 through our website. We are carefully following established CoVid-19 health and safety guidelines for public libraries to keep our library users and staff safe. Learn more about Fall Hours and Services here.
Supporting student learning is still a top priority. We know back to school season has some new twists and turns. Virtual learning presents challenges for students, parents, and teachers. One big challenge is lack of access to classroom and school library book collections. The public library can fill that void. Your library card gives you access to collections at any public library in Milwaukee County. We know it can be overwhelming to decide which books are a good fit for your child’s needs. Our professional youth services staff can help you choose materials. We have created a 100+ Picture Books Every Child Should Know display and booklist. You can explore our other recommended booklists on the Read section of our website. The Learn section offers online resources to supplement your child’s studies.
We also want help your kids have some fun. Our popular craft programs Wednesday Art Cart and Family Fun Night are now available “to go.” You can pick up take and make kits filled with all the project materials to finish at home. All kits are available to pick up in-person or through curbside service. In-person Stories on the Lawn will continue as long as the weather cooperates. When the big chill sets in, story times will be virtual. You and your little ones can still enjoy finger rhymes, lap bounces and other early literacy games during our Rhyme Time Tuesdays on Facebook. Our annual Halloween Happening isn’t happening this year, but Halloween is. We want to help you safely celebrate Halloween and all things autumn with a week-long I Spy October scavenger hunt. Kids can pick up a copy of the hunt at the library or print one from our website. Those who complete their hunt by October 31 and tell us the secret phrase can claim their treat bags.
We’d miss seeing all those cute and clever costumes at the library so we are having a Virtual Costume Parade. Share a picture of your kids in costume on our Facebook page. We will collect the pictures and put them in a slide show to share on Facebook and in the Library. Your kids will be able to see themselves and their friends and neighbors.
