Shorewood Library - A Winter Fun-derland

A New Year has arrived, but the weather seems to be the same old story. Too wet or too cold or too icy.   Are you looking for a way to fight off those common January ailments Cabin Fever and the Winter  Blahs?  Shorewood Library has the remedy – plenty of fun and free activities for all ages.

Our popular on-going programs return – a few with some changes we think you’ll like. Four week sessions of Rhyme & Read Lapsit , Toddler Time, and Rhyme and Read P.M. – Plus More start Monday Feb 6. Registration for all three programs begins January 23. Register online, in person, or over the phone. Registration for the Thursday morning PreSchool Story Time is ongoing.

Special Saturdays for families with young children kick off January 21 at 10:30 a.m.. Warm up with the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music and some lively music and movement. The February 11 Special Saturday will feature YogaConnects' Stretch with a Story.

We also have events to keep those school kids busy after the bell rings.  Kids can exercise their creativity every week from 2:30 – 4:00 p.m. at Wednesday Art Cart. Lego Club, for first grade & up, meets the first and third Thursdays of the month from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. Gadget girls and guys, in third grade & up, can enjoy STEAM-y fun at our monthly Tinker Lab. Once a month, Friday becomes Tweensday. Kids, in fourth through seventh grade, can drop by to enjoy large screen video games, board games, and snacks. If you are looking for some fun family time, check out Family Fun Nights the second Tuesday of the month from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.. Family Fun Nights include crafts, Legos, and games.

Kids in first through eighth grade can join the Milwaukee Bucks Reading Challenge. Those who read 250 pages and check in at the library by February 24th earn a voucher for a ticket to the March 31 or April 2 Bucks game.

Mark Your Calendar for the Seuss Celebration! Our annual celebration of all things Seuss will be held Saturday February 25 – 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.. Enjoy local celebrities reading their favorite Dr. Seuss books, a performance by Shorewood Recreation Department’s Drama Jr., and Seuss-tastical games, crafts, and refreshments.

Feeling the need for some grown-up time? We also offer a full slate of programs for adults from a winter reading program and book clubs to game nights and special speakers. Check out our Events Calendar to learn more.
