Several characters, including Arthur Leander and Kristin Raymonde, are Shakespearean actors, and scenes from King Lear and A Midsummer Night's Dream are referenced in the book. They'll perform a scene from King Lear, and then give an inside account of what it's like to be part of a traveling troupe including costuming, set design, and the importance of audience interaction.
