Must-Listen New Music

Posted Feb 9, 2016

Here are our must-listen recommendations for new music that hit the library shelves this month and last month.

Classical

Blackbird: the Beatles Album - Milos

Classical guitarist Milos gets down with his pop roots as he covers a host of Beatles' songs with guest stars including Anoushka Shankar (daughter of sitarist Ravi) and Tori Amos.

Jazz

A Love Supreme: The Complete Masters - John Coltrane

One of the masters of 20th century jazz music, A Love Supreme is here heard as never before - with original session recordings, and a live performance from shortly after the album's release.

Soundtrack

The Hateful Eight OST -  Ennio Morricone

Morricone receives his sixth Oscar nomination for the soundtrack to Quentin Tarantino's latest film. Even if you're not a Tarantinto fan, this soundtrack featuring the Czech National Orchestra is worth listening to.

Pop/Rock/Rap

King Push - Darkest Before Dawn: The Prelude - Pusha T

Hip-hop vet Pusha brings in other big names including Kanye West and Timbaland on this well-produced album that shouldn't be missed for serious rap and hip-hop fans.

Alternative

Songs in the Dark - The Wainwright Sisters

Martha Wainwright and sister Lucy Wainwright Roche come together for the first time - with some songwriting by brother Rufus, too - on an album of dark lullabies and folksy covers hearkening to their roots.
